Fabric specially designed for CEC. Does not stretch or sag like nylon when wet - tent retains shape in heavy downpour. Weatherproof: Coated with a Polyurethane film rated at 3000mm. Seam sealed to prevent water penetration. Storm flap: Channels water away from the tent. Dyna-strap webbing: Bigger and stronger than conventional guy lines, fitted at peak of pole arc to provide maximum tension, help stabilize tent and maintain structure, especially in strong winds. Mesh vents: top and opposite ends of tent allow for greater air circulation reducing internal condensation and regulating heat exchange while keeping out bugs and rain. Doors: Full mesh fabric for air circulation with secondary weather proof full fabric doors for privacy. Guy lines: High tensile nylon woven with 3M reflective taping for greater visibility in low light conditions. Inner tent:. Breathable polyester with mesh vents help regulate air flow. I combed through dozens of tents, and all the top manufacturers in the outdoor equipment world in search of a family tent for our future expeditions. Now there are many fine tents out there, but no matter what I'm shopping for, I'm always looking for that special item. The kind of item that just stands apart from its peers, be it a car, a sport coat, my wife, you name it. This tent immediately demanded my attention and its aesthetics were apparent, even though I was viewing it on a web page. I rolled the dice and pressed "buy", and I couldn't be happier with the result. More importantly, the Mrs. likes it too, as do the kids.Aesthetically, it appeals to my sensibilities as a former active duty marine. It's shaped like a Quonset hut, and is very expeditionary looking like a Royal Army style command tent. One of my gripes about all the other tents is that they all look the same for the most part. Our first expedition with this tent was Refugio State Beach in Santa Barbara. We set the tent up (we'll cover assembly in a moment) wiith the front hatch facing the beach unobstructed. The effect from inside was breathtaking. It was the best looking tent in the campground by a wide margin, and many a conversation was started over my fellow campers appraisal. If I had a few extra tents, I could have sold them them and there. It's the most handsome tent I've ever seen or owned. It's in a class by itself, and that is no overstatement.Assembly: ideally assembly could be accomplished as quickly as 20 minutes, though I tend to take longer, especially the first time. I'm in no hurry (as I was when I was in the service) as I want to ensure that it is done properly the first time. The tent is laid out flat and staked. You will want to purchase an additional set of stakes as the PVC stakes provided were the only component that I felt were than adequate. I use MSR groundhogs (here on Amazon as well), they are lightweight and deep penetrating and are ideal for camping or lightweight backpacking. After staking the tent, the PVC ribs are mated and slipped through the sleeves own the outside of the tent, terminating on either end in fabric sockets at the bottom. Easily done with 2 people. After that, there is only some additional cords to anchor, and and inner sleeve that goes inside the tent to make the double bedroom (a tent within a tent).Field testing: the materials are quality and sturdy, and very waterproof as well. It is spacious, 200 sq ft.+, and we could set up the mess table inside and even cook inside. it is equipped with covered ceiling vents that allow moisture to escape while not allowing precipitation (or bugs) in. It rained on one day of our week long stay, and we were dry as comfy inside, cooking and playing cards and running propane heaters. I understand CEC set up one of these in the winter and left it exposed for several months, with minimal deterioration and no snow intrusion. For heating and cooking I would recommend setting up propane tanks (blue rhinos for instance) and a distribution tree to fuel Mr Heaters and propane stoves. You will also be well advised to use an LED light set to string lights across the ceiling and mount the controller near one of the side hatches. I noted that two tents could be set side by side and an AstroTurf mat and canopy bewteen them could serve as a covered walkway if more space was desired.Tunnel tents are desirable in windy conditions. Normally the breeze flows from off shore, and is mild in Santa Barbara. However, one night at about 11pm, a strong gale from on shore out to sea suddenly struck. I would estimate it at 45 miles per hour, with stronger gusts. The tent behaved like an accordion (stake it down well) and did not budge. I was sleeping next to the rear wall and the wall would droop all the way until it touched my bag, and then spring back up when the wind subsided. The tent retained it shape, no ribs were snapped (they are hollow) and the tent performed better than expected. I was glad that this event occurred as now I can say we've experienced this and know what to expect.Pictures of interior are available online. It is bigger in reality than the pictures seem to convey. CEC has many other styles of tents in various sizes and I would definitely consider them first when searching for a family style tent. There were four of us (nuclear family) and we were not cramped at all. Well worth the money!I give it five stars.
